Waiting on Wednesday #11

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine, which spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick for this week:

Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman
ISBN: 9781408826140
Format: Paperback
Length: 288 pages

Publication date: January 2012
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Add it to your Goodreads wishlist
Eleven-year-old Harrison Opoku, the second best runner in Year 7, races through his new life in England with his personalised trainers - the Adidas stripes drawn on with marker pen - blissfully unaware of the very real threat around him. Newly-arrived from Ghana with his mother and older sister Lydia, Harri absorbs the many strange elements of city life, from the bewildering array of Haribo sweets, to the frightening, fascinating gang of older boys from his school. But his life is changed forever when one of his friends is murdered. As the victim's nearly new football boots hang in tribute on railings behind fluorescent tape and a police appeal draws only silence, Harri decides to act, unwittingly endangering the fragile web his mother has spun around her family to keep them safe.

Why I can't wait:
I saw this title on the publisher's website the other day and I know I'm cheating again (shame on me!) because it was actually published in January this year, but I still wanted to feature this in this week's WoW because it sounds fantastic. Anyway, why am I looking forward to reading it? Because I've read a similar book last year and I absolutely loved it!! Getting used to a new lifestyle AND gangs? Yes please!

What are you waiting on this week? Make sure to leave me a link below!

I'm glad you "cheated" a little, because I think this book sounds really interesting! I like alot of the things that Bloomsbury publishes, and it looks like this will be no exception to that rule.
